POSITION SUMMARY:
Applications are invited for a full time Postdoctoral Research Fellow position with the section of Food and Nutrition at UCD. The role represents an exciting opportunity to work on a Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM) funded JPI project AMBROSIA “Microbiota-Inflammation-Brain axis in heart failure: new food, biomarkerS and AI Approach for the prevention of undeRnutrition in Older adults”.
The role will involve researching new ingredients that will be incorporated in food for later clinical trials together with industry and academic partners. Special focus of this post will be the development and/or valorisation of protein/peptide ingredients from dairy and other agri-food side processing streams. The successful candidate will analyse the chemical composition of the ingredients, focusing mainly on amino acid composition, and will also determine the biological properties in vitro of these compounds and sequence the most active peptides. The utilisation of other side processing streams will also be relevant for this post and experience analysing a wide variety of compounds (phenolic compounds, polysaccharides) will be an advantage.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:
